Une petite famille de cinq ratons laveurs est venue faire le party sur mon balcon. Le pire s’est déroulé sur le balcon du deuxième étage (pas d’images) où ils ont ouvert le bac de graines à oiseaux, s’empiffrant en les répandant partout. Ils ont aussi uriné et déféqué à plusieurs endroits. ❖ A small family of five raccoons came to party on my balcony. The worst happened on the second floor balcony (no pictures) where they opened the bird seed bin, gorging themselves and spreading it everywhere. They also urinated and defecated in several places.

Le 27 octobre dernier, dans le Parc Frédéric-Back, nous avons pu assister à la fin du spectacle “Les acrobates du ciel”, une démonstration d’oiseaux de proie donnée par Faucon-Éduc. Nous avons ainsi pu observer une Chouette Effraie (Tyto alba / Barn owl) et un Grand-Duc d’Amérique (Bubo virginianus / Great horned owl).

I kept hearing that the comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas (C/2023 A3) was visible in our night sky, but I was rather sceptical considering the amount of light pollution in my neighbourhood. However, I didn’t want to take any chances, so last week, on Thursday night, about an hour after sunset (19:56), my wife and I went to the park and turn our gazes toward the west… and saw absolutely nothing (besides a few faint stars)! Remembering that the pictures I took of the aurora borealis with my iPhone had shown much more details than our eyes could see, I took a few pictures of the western landscape, just in case. Amazingly, we can distinguish on the pictures the faint trace of the comet.

Cette variété de large Marguerite est plus connue sous son nom anglais, Shasta daisy, qui évoque la blancheur du sommet du Mont Shasta en Californie. Elle est considérée par certains comme une mauvaise herbe nuisible et son odeur peut parfois être désagréable. • This variety of large daisy is better known by its English name, Shasta daisy, which evokes the whiteness of the summit of Mount Shasta in California. It is considered by some to be a noxious weed and its smell can sometimes be unpleasant.

À l’aube de l’Action de Grâce il est effectivement temps de rendre grâce à Mère Nature et de célébrer une très bonne récolte. Ce fut en effet une assez bonne année. En plus d’abondantes fleurs (Ancolie, aster de Nouvelle-Angleterre, capucine, impatientes, iris, jonquille, Œillet du poète, marguerite, tagète, topinambour, tournesol, tulipe, volubilis, etc.), herbes (basilic, menthe, roquette, shiso et même capucines), tomates et fèves, nous avons récolté cet été un peu de laitue et de choux frisé, quelques radis et poivrons, une bonne demi-douzaine de concombres et près d’une cinquantaine de pommes ! En mélangeant le fruit de nos trois vignes avec des pommes nous avons également produit une excellente confiture. Notre jardin a peut être une allure un peu sauvage mais il respire la biodiversité. Voici un échantillon de notre récolte estivale…
