ショウジョウコウカンチョウ [猩々紅冠鳥 / shōjōkōkanchō]

C’est la première tempête de neige de l’année et le Cardinal en est d’autant plus visible dans la blancheur du paysage… Photo prise par mon épouse avec sa vieille caméra digitale (Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W710, 2013, 16 MP, 5x optical zoom), comme quoi que ce qui compte c’est la caméra qu’on a sous la main quand l’occasion se présente…

Quand l’hiver survient, il est toujours agréable d’avoir des images florales pour se rappeler des temps plus cléments. • When winter arrives, it is always nice to have floral images to remind us of warmer times.

L’identité des fruits mystérieux qui poussaient dans le jardin s’est finalement révélée. Il s’agissait d’une mini-Kabocha et mini-cantaloupe qui, étant donné leur pousse tardive, n’ont pas atteint leur plein développement. Ils étaient moins sucré qu’ils auraient du être, mais tout de même délicieux. Une autre courge (pas d’image) était, semble-t-il, une courge spaghetti [Cucurbita pepo / Spaghetti squash / キンシウリ] qui, même si elle n’avait pas encore développé sa chaire filamenteuse, s’est révélée fort gouteuse. Ah! Les joies du jardinage…

The identity of the mysterious fruits growing in the garden was finally revealed. They were a mini-Kabocha and mini-Cantaloupe which, given their late growth, hadn’t reached their full size. They were less sweet than they should have been, but still delicious. Another squash (no picture) was, it seems, a spaghetti squash which, even though it hadn’t yet developed its stringy flesh, proved to be quite tasty. Ah, the joys of gardening…

Octobre s’achève et le jardin est encore étonnamment fleuri ! • October is coming to an end and the garden is still surprisingly in bloom!
